PLANT NAME:  Ajuga reptans 'Atropurpurea'

PLANT DESCRIPTION:Ajuga reptans 'Atropurpurea' is a vigorous perennial forming a dense mat of deep bronze-purple, ovate leaves and short erect spikes to 15cm tall, of deep blue flowers in late spring and early summer

POSITION:Full sun or full shade

SOIL TYPE:Any garden soil.


SPREAD:10cm-50cm rooting as it grows.

FLOWERING PERIOD: grown for its foliage colour especially in winter. Purple flowers appear in early spring and are good for attracting bees.


GARDEN CARE:The ideal plant for growing under trees in moist conditions. A partly shaded position with some sun is needed to bring out the purple leaf colour. Although it will grow in shade, foliage will be greener.
